The sanitation department of Heidelberg, Germany recently added the new Schmidt eSwingo 200+ to it’s fleet of street sweepers and its reception has been enthusiastic.

Heidelberg has long used Schmidt’s diesel-powered sweepers to keep its streets clean, so when the all-electric eSwingo 200+ was introduced, city fathers couldn’t wait to see if it would stand up to keeping the city’s historic streets clean for its 160,000 residents and the thousands of tourists who visit each year.

The reviews are in and they’re impressive.

Dietmar Schlicht, Head of Sales at Aebi Schmidt Germany, manufacturer of the eSwingo sweepers, says that clients can look forward to a sweeper that is the equal of diesel models in terms of performance and functionality.

The eSwingo’s hopper is 2 m³ (2.6 yards). Its two battery packs provide both top performance and efficient handling. Both the drive and the sweeping unit are propelled entirely by electric power. The use of a single electric motor mounted directly on the rear axle enables a top speed of 50 km/h (30 mph), providing higher performance and lower maintenance costs than alternative systems. A powerful rechargeable battery with a capacity of more than 60 kWh provides up to 10 hours operation without recharging.

It also enables savings of up to 85% of the energy costs and 70% of the maintenance costs along with a longer life cycle compared to models with a diesel motor.

The eSwingo has the added advantage of significantly lower noise levels. This is not only better for drivers but also for residents, especially when the sweeper is used at night or in the early morning.

The city’s cleaning team was impressed by the eSwingo’s comfort and sophisticated control system.
