OJ Watson Keeps ‘Em Flying
April 16, 2021

When Denver International Airport (DIA) opened in 1995, it was the world’s largest airport in land area, since surpassed only by King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia. It’s larger than the cities of San Francisco and Boston and nearly as big as the nations of Liechtenstein, Monaco, and Andorra. Its 35,000 employees serve nearly 200,000 passengers on 1,600 flights every day, making it the 5th-busiest airport in the US.

It has 33 miles of runways and taxiways comprising 6 million square yards of concrete. There’s an 11-mile freeway connecting it to the surrounding metro area and 23 football fields worth of parking.

So when it snows, there’s a lot of the white stuff to move. And with a quarter million people depending on it, it needs to be moved quickly.

We Know Snow

O.J. Watson Equipment specializes in trucks and equipment to handle snow and ice control from the smallest lots to major highways and airport runways—in some of the worst conditions imaginable. And we’re proud to be the supplier of much of Denver International’s 270-vehicle snow removal equipment fleet.

We design central hydraulic systems that operate in conjunction with the latest, most sophisticated snow and ice removal equipment to operate snowblowers, plows, sanders, deicers, and snow disposal vehicles. Steel plows, poly plows, under-body or wing scrapers—we are here to work with you to build the trucks that you need to keep airports and roadways safe and clear.

The kings of the road (or runway, to be more accurate) are heavy-duty truck bodies with Oshkosh dual-engine blowers that can throw as much as 5,000 tons of snow an hour as far as 200 feet making them the ultimate solution to airport snow removal. The blowers are synched to the truck wheels to allow the drivers to concentrate on the path ahead, adding a large measure of safety to hazardous operating conditions.
