Electrification Push Continues. Will You Be Ready?
By Michael McClanahan / March 07, 2024

Colorado is one of nine states pledging to have 65% of all new residential HVAC and hot water systems be electric heat pumps by 2030. That goal rises to 90% by 2040. Several municipalities are going so far as to restrict, or even prohibit, new residential and commercial natural gas hookups, Denver among them. And federal, state, and local governments along with utilities are committing billions of dollars to encourage consumers and businesses to convert to electric power from fossil fuel.

This means that more and more new construction, and remodeling too, will need upgraded electrical service, both from utility companies and contractors. And more demand means more equipment and workers will be needed to get the job(s) done.

More Work Means More Trucks

In addition to local construction, generating stations, from wind and solar to hydro and nuclear, will need to be built to feed the increase in demand caused by the shift from fossil fuels to electricity. The massive buildup of the power grid needed to accomplish these goals will cause utility companies to rely more heavily on subcontractors.

New construction and remodels will need to clear land and rights of way. Transmission towers will need to be built and utility lines will need to be run, most of them underground.

General contractors, subs, and specialty contractors like solar installers will see increasing workloads, adding to the importance of having the right equipment to make their jobs more efficient and profitable. And a big part of meeting that demand involves having the right trucks to get materials and supplies to the sites and handling the tasks when they get there.

Yes, times are changing, but with change comes opportunity. That’s where O.J. Watson Equipment becomes a big part of the solution.
