The end of 2022 marked the first anniversary of the Boulder County wildfire commonly referred to as the Marshall Fire.
A devastating, windswept fire ravaged through the communities of Superior and Louisville on December 30, 2021 destroying over 1,000 homes and businesses and causing over $1 billion in losses. But the communities came together and by mid-year, cleanup was well underway and rebuilding had begun.
As the year came to a close, debris removal in the City of Louisville was 100% complete, 141 building permits were issued, and 41 were under review, representing 36% of the 550 homes and businesses lost in the fire.
In the Town of Superior, all but five of the 387 affected parcels have been cleared, 166 building permits have been issued, and three certificates of occupancy have been approved, two commercial and one residential.
Year-end marked a milestone in the recovery effort when the first family moved into a new home rebuilt on the site where their original house had stood. Dozens of other homes are under construction as the neighborhoods rise from the ashes.
